Cody and I have arrived at our family’s cabin in Tempelseter, Eggedal where we begin our Norway adventures. The cabin sits at 950 meters above sea level and is only footsteps away from endless kilometers of terrain just waiting to be explored. I brought two Nikon cameras that we had at home (Coolpix P100 and Digital D60 for all you camera people) to document our journey. With views in the direction of Kongsbergnuten, Numedalsfjellet, and Gaustadtoppen, we couldn’t ask for a more picturesque setting. Feel free to follow us @juliaelizabethblog and @codythecabinpup to see what we get up to daily. While this is Cody and I’s first blogging adventure, our adventurous history goes way back.
The moment Cody stumbled into our house on his oversized paws at twelve weeks old, our lifelong adventure immediately began. From sightseeing in Oslo and boating in the fjords to camping in Telemark and hiking in Hedmark, Cody was always happy to come along. We drove to Skarnes where Cody competed in his first dog show and took home Best of Breed and Best in Show for his age group. We checked into Skjerdingen Mountain Hotel in Atna where Cody learned to be a respectful hotel guest. We road tripped to Stockholm where Cody crossed the Norway-Sweden border and became an international traveler. We took the train to visit my grandmother in Trondheim where Cody was a very popular passenger on the seven-hour journey. When it came time for me to leave for college, Cody was the hardest goodbye. Little did we know at the time that our adventures had just barely begun.
Three years later, Cody flew to the US to join me at the University of Michigan as my college roommate. I will forever be thankful that my parents came around to the idea and helped with the travel arrangements. Cody took a liking to college life and we enjoyed regular walks around campus, frequent runs in the Arboretum, and many cuddle sessions at home. We took two road trips throughout the year, one to Mammoth Cave, Kentucky and the other to Westerville, Ohio where we stayed in dog-friendly Airbnbs. After graduation, Cody began his journey back to Norway with my parents, but not without a stop in New York first. Cody rode the train into Grand Central Terminal, window shopped along Fifth Avenue, and met the Balto Statue in Central Park. We ate lunch in the park and said another hard goodbye in the bustling streets of Manhattan, unaware that our current Norway adventures would begin only a few months later.
As I curl up on the couch under piles of blankets for the evening with the sound of Cody’s snoring competing with the radio and the smell of wet dog overpowering the scented candle, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you for all your thoughtful comments on my last post, your support means the world. Here’s to the start of our Norwegian wilderness adventures, let’s see what Eggedal has to offer.
Awww, am in love with Cody, enjoy your adventure xx
