A Sunny Saturday in Snowshoes

A Sunny Saturday in Snowshoes

From the first dusting of snow one month ago to the icy in-between period to the first proper snowfall, the transition from autumn to winter is finally complete and the outdoor winter activities can now begin. While we wait on the trails for cross-country skiing to be made and the mountains for alpine skiing and snowboarding to open, it’s time to pull out those snowshoes. Today was actually my first time ever snowshoeing, but that wasn’t a problem because I found them to be easy to walk in and fairly intuitive. After I strapped my hiking boots into the snowshoes, Cody and I excitedly set out for the mountain.

The white clouds hung directly above the snow-covered mountain tops, beautifully blending the two together. I admired our magical surroundings and took in the fresh mountain air. Looking out at the valley below, I felt the warmth of the sun on my face and the below-freezing temperatures suddenly felt rather comfortable. I slipped out of the snowshoes to make my first snow angel of the season, and Cody did the same. Unfortunately his angel didn’t come out quite like mine and he then proceeded to ruin my masterpiece…

After our snow angel creations, I strapped my snowshoes back on and we continued exploring the wintery terrain. I honestly couldn’t tell you who was having more fun because both Cody and I were acting like children as we ran side by side through the powdery snow. After getting most of our energy out, we eventually circled back to the cabin and spent the rest of the afternoon decorating for Christmas. All in all, it was another spectacular adventure in the mountains and a wonderful first snowshoe experience. It definitely won’t be the last.

I love the snowing season. I love to spend it on my grandpa cabin with my siblings talking about the good old days. I love blankets by the fireplace with hot cocoa. I love your pictures it really take me back to a time in my life when, my biggest worries was marshmallows. Now with Children, I constantly hear, Mom it’s cold and there is nothing to do out hear, lol. After sledding and making snowmen, they are ready to enjoy the fireplace. My oldest loves the scenery and never complains. She gives a SnapChat followers many snaps.

I used to go snowboarding in the winter, but I haven’t had the chance to go in the last couple of years. Seeing the beautiful slopes in your pictures now make me want to book a weekend trip and just go and have some fun.

I need to get back on my snowboard too! I much prefer it to alpine skiing but I haven’t made it to a downhill mountain recently. I hope you will make it out on the slopes this year 🙂

My favorite snow activity is sledding. Every year still today we go sledding even though my sons are men. It is a tradition for us to go at least a couple times during the winter months. We also love going ice fishing too. Snowshoeing is something I have not yet did and really want to try it this year. Thanks for sharing your amazing experience.

What a great tradition, sledding is definitely a fun time and even more so when you make it a family affair 😛 I have been wanting to try ice fishing! Thanks Rebecca, I definitely recommend giving snowshoeing a try.

We don’t get any snow here, so it totally captures my heart when I see such beautiful scenes like this one. Looks like a wonderful weekend.
